Matchmaking event for municipalities
The matchmaking event for Slovak municipalities with population over 15.000 inhabitants and municipalities from the donor states (Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein) was held on 29th October 2019 in Oslo. The event was organized by the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic as the Operator of the Programme „Climate change mitigation and adaptation“ (abbreviated name “Programme SK-Climate“) financed from the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism in the programming period 2014-2021, in close cooperation with the donor programme partners, the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE), the Directorate for Civil Protection and Emergency Planning (DSB) and the Norwegian Environment Agency (NEA).
The main goal of the event was to introduce to the municipalities the possibilities for cooperation and implementation of joint projects within the calls for proposals supporting projects on action plans and measures for mitigation and adaptation implemented by local authorities in urban areas, planned to be launched by the Programme SK-Climate (Outcome 1: Increased climate change resilience and responsiveness within targeted areas; Output 1.1: Action plans for mitigation and adaptation implemented by local authorities in urban areas).
The registration for the event was opened for the eligible Slovak municipalities from 3rd October until 9th October 2019. After successful registration there were altogether sixteen municipalities from Slovakia participating at the event. On behalf of the donor states (in particular Norway) ten municipalise were present. All participating municipalities presented activities and measures in the field of climate change adaptation and mitigation. Furthermore, Tina Sølvberg from the Financial Mechanism Office introduced the EEA and Norway Grants. Bjørn Aulie from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate as the main co-organizer of the event presented the scope of the NVE organization and its involvement in several climate and energy oriented programmes financed from the EEA and Norway Grants within Europe. The Programme Operator introduced the focus of the SK-Climate Programme and more closely informed about its objectives related to the outcome and output indicators. Finally, all participants were informed about the activities of the Oslo city connected to its title of the European green capital 2019.
The goals of the event were met. The organizers welcomed high interest and professional contributions from the participating municipalities and believe that the event contributed to laying the foundations for their future bilateral cooperation.
